"Everyday Use" & "Marriage is a Private Affair" Story Connection

Everyone who is born in the world ideally will love their family as a vivid symbol of affection. In a family, the existence of multi-generation is very natural and can be considered as blessings. The older generation will guide the younger generations and will create a harmonious in the family. However, the existence of different generations sometimes may result in a different point of view which may lead to conflicts within the family. Those typical situations are perfectly told in the story plot of “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker and “Marriage is a Private Affair” by Chinua Achebe. Both of those short stories have a similar theme that described the conflict caused by different perspective between parents and children. Furthermore, this essay will compare three different aspects that can be analyzed through the two short stories, which are the different reasons of the conflict, the different family’s tradition, and the different environment surroundings that may influence the character’s way of thinking.

The Government of Republic Indonesia Should End The Fuels Subsidies for Better Economic and Social Welfare

Fuel oil is one of the basic needs of many people in Indonesia. Students, teachers, doctors, salesmen, everyone, need fuel oil for their vehicle(s). Since very long time ago, Indonesian government always try to help their citizens and allocates much money to subsidize the fuels. At 2018, one-liter premium and solar fuel are charged for IDR. 6000 and IDR. 5000 (Rianto). Indonesian government hopes it could help citizens especially for those who are still in low-middle class income. However, during the implementation of fuels subsidies policy, the fuel consumption per day always exceeds the predetermined quota. It really worried government and makes them re-allocate another subsidies’ spending to fund the fuels subsidies. So far, there are so many pros and contras regarding the sustainability of fuels subsidies. Since 2014 at Mr. President Jokowi’s administration, fuel prices have been increasing as fuel subsidies decreased every year. The increase in fuel prices causes massive protests from various elements in society. That is why the decision to continue, cut, or end the fuels subsidies is always a dilemma for the Indonesian government.

The Blue Bowl: Story of a Buried Memory

When a person is left by their significant other, it will hurt and make them feel down. It is nothing different when the pet owners are abandoned by their precious animals, as it will crush them as much as they lost their beloved one. The misery will not go easily especially when they have shared joyfulness to each other. That sadness is entirely shown through “The Blue Bowl,” a poem written by Jane Kenyon. The whole plot of this poem tells the readers about the speaker’s and her family sadness feeling when their beloved cat was dead. Furthermore, the tone, the diction, and the senses that the poem convey can be used to analyze the feeling of the speaker and her family.

Communication and Technology's Impacts

There are three importance of communication skills for career success, which are: communication influences how we think about our-self and others; communication influences the way we learn; and communication skills are demanded by business and industry. First, communication definitely make us think about concept we want to deliver and while we are communicating we try to understand others’ messages and priorities. It can happen when someone told us that we are not speak clearly and we need an improvement in grammar, it may be discouraging. So that is why, it is important to have a good communication skills as professionals. Second, communication really influence how we learn something. When we are not good enough in speaking then we are motivated to practice. Having a good communication skill is a symbol that we have effort, persistence, and self-correction. Third, business and industry demand person with a good communication skill. There is a fact that top level managers mostly hire a consultant to make their communication skills improve. Moreover, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, communication skills is the top rank of personal skills employers seek. So, that is all the three importance of communication skills to support our career growth.

The quantity demand for junk food with respect to price for me is inelastic. I know when the price goes up people will consume less junk food, however the decreasing demand is less than the increasing price. It is because the substitutes for junk foods (fast foods) is difficult to find by now, especially in US. The most fast and easy food to eat is junk food itself.  Based on “The Impact of Food Prices on Consumption: A Systematic Review of Research on the Price Elasticity of Demand for Food” journal, it says that “Price elasticities for foods and nonalcoholic beverages ranged from 0.27 to 0.81 (absolute values)”. We highlight that elasticities stated is less than 1%, so it is going to be inelastic. The idea behind this is that the buyer must buy the foods even if the price rises for 1%, because the demand will only reduce for lest than 1%. So we can know that price is not impactful toward the quantity demand in Junk Food.

The role of government is quite significant to intervene the trade in order to cope with inefficient activities in the economy. Inefficient activities include unequal distribution.

1. The function of the government to maintain internal security and defense. In order for citizens to conduct business activities with a calm and comfortable.
2. The function of the government to administer the judiciary, so that every citizen has the same rights and obligations.
3. The function of the government to provide goods not provided, so that citizens get easiness in running business activities. 

Despite all, the reason of government intervention can be classify as three main parts:

1. To correct market failures. Market is an unexpected things in our life; we cannot handle the market as it supposed to be. Therefore, to prevent any massive failure in the economic system, the role of government is really needed. There are several example of market failure such as immobility, public goods, demerit goods, merit goods, imperfect information, high relative poverty, and monopoly power in a market. Those market failure can bring some negative impacts such as structural unemployment, failure of market to provide pure public goods, free rider problem, over consumption of products with negative externalizes, consequences for consumers from poor choices, low income families suffer social exclusion, negative externalizes, higher prices for consumers, cause loss of allocate efficiency
2. To achieve a more equitable distribution of income and wealth. The reason of the government is that it is the power of each human being to gain more money to fulfill their need. Therefore, the government needs to distribute equal wealth especially to those people who live under economic condition.
3. To maximize the social prosperity. The role of government to intervene the trade is to boost the performance of the economy. Since, they will be able to compete with other countries from all over the world for the sake of good economic performance in the world. The role of government can also improve social welfare involving public welfare. Such as improving the function of public facilities. Thus, the government can utilize these facilities equally.
4. Socio-Economic Factors. Market interventions for socio-economic including labor laws to protect certain segments of the population and the setting up of certain products to ensure the health and well-being of consumers.

However, even though junk foods can make people‘s life looks so simple, it also can cause a dramatic health problem in the future. People should start thinking wisely about junk foods and considering the quality of it. It is very reasonable since junk foods may lead many health problems to people. For one reason, junk foods are possible to increase blood pressure and result in heart attack. Secondly, junk foods able to grow tumors and it may lead people to get cancer. Human activities will totally re-arrange since people need to do more and more efforts to follow the era. They keep trying harder and forget to take a rest also dismiss their stress. This reality actually makes people do not realize that their life, time by time is not healthy anymore. Mainly, there are three simple ways that people can do to achieve a healthy life nowadays, which are: sleep well, exercise, and having a good diet.

Pada tahun 2014, Indonesia terpilih sebagai Negara dengan tingkat pertumbuhan ekonomi terbesar di dunia, yaitu sekitar 14,7% di bawah Amerika dan Cina. Why English is a Requirement?

Living in a modern era forces people to give more attention about global competitions. In fact, who are the people who should be prepared for that global competition? They are simply students. They should be prepared, so they are ready to face and enter a new stage of life. Students as the next generation should have good knowledge in purpose to push Indonesia into a strong stand when face the global competition. One of the most important subjects that can support it is English. English is a very important subject for students to learn because it can increase their awareness about international issues, it may help them to be accepted by international scholarship programs, and it will give them numerous options of job in the future.

Strengths and Weakness

Do I have strength? Or do you have any weaknesses? Yes, everybody include me and you are having both of weakness and strength. Weakness and strength are naturally owned by everyone when they were born. It cannot be disappeared and cannot be avoided but human only need to minimize their weaknesses and improve their strengths. My biggest weakness in English is tenses, but my strength in English is speaking. I can speak English in a good confidence even with no preparations. For me, make others follow my opinions by using English is a challenge and that is my final purpose while speaking English. To improve my strength of speaking English I do some activities such as using English to suggest others and joining English debating competition.

Self Relfection

Since I was in Senior High School, I always got a bad mark in English writing test. I do not know why and I cannot find any solutions on that. Need to know, I really love English but just in some aspects, such as reading and speaking. I realize that I am much better in reading especially in speaking. But time by time, I start to know why I hate writing in English. The reason is I have no skill and less knowledge of tenses and grammars. And maybe that is why my senior high school teacher sometimes did not understand with what I was writing. But when I joined both of ENGL 0302 and ENGL 0309, my writing skill was dramatically improving. I feel that. I start to understand how to make a good sentence with a clear controlling idea and making a structure-able paragraph with some supporting sentences. But do not forget about tenses and grammar because I almost remember all of the tenses and some of basic grammar (mostly use in writing) since I joined this class. That improvement shows to me that this class really helps me to have better English writing skill. If I can back to the past with the knowledge that I have today, I will easily get the best mark in my class or the best mark among entire students in my Senior High School.

Not Idol, But Inspiration!

Since my laptop repaired at 2009, I unfortunately found a new role model in my life. I seriously loved how he act and how he enjoyed his life. His name is Jay Chou. He is a Chinese Singer but he was born in Taiwan at 18th January 1979. I start choosing him as my life model due to some reasons, like he is a multi-talent singer and he has good personality.

I would like to inform you that Jay Chou had made his own film in 2007 and 2013, and both of those film became an Asia box office movie record broker, exactly when those two films was released. Not only made some films a few years ago, he was also an actor and won a Best Newcomer Award at 2005 in Initial D film. Moreover, he also able to play more than one music instruments, such as a drum, a violin, a piano, a guitar, and a cello (one of traditional Chinese music instrument). With all of those abilities, it is very sure to said and it proofs to everyone that he is the real multi-talent singer ever in the world.

The second reason of why I love him so much is because his good personality. I know the fact that in 2001 his face was chosen by TIME Magazine to be their cover with the caption, "He doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, and surprise, he actually writes his own hits. Meet the New King of Asian Pop." Oh, man!! What was that!? Was that real!? Yes! I answer you with my finger swearing. That was true. That was the truth. The New Asian King of Pop was born and started to threat the older singer at that time. Nowadays, he is the best singer in Asia and has million fans even without fan base. He has made more than 10 albums and held various concerts that were attended by more than 30.000 people per concert. The simple reasons of why everyone still love him just because his humble personality; he is not sensational and he is free from every law scandals during his career. Should be Indonesian Artist’s inspiration! (Hahaha..)

Overall, I love Jay so much; even I like other people too. For me, Jay Chou is a very great singer who has multi talents and has good personality. If I have a chance to meet with him, it would be very good, but I know, it is lack of possibilities since I live in Indonesia and he lives in China. Confident at Writing

To feel confident when writing a good composition, students must follow these several ways carefully: pick a favorite topic, write bravely, and edit neatly. To begin with, pick a favorite topic is the basic requirement if students want to successfully write a composition, since they like the topic itself. After choosing their favorite topic, students may start to make an outline and determine the title. If all those ways have followed, students can start writing and make an “out of the box” opening in the first sentence. Students must write smoothly and just forget about grammar for a moment. If students have finished, the next way is editing. In editing, students are better to check the topic, and make sure if the idea is from general to specific. In conclusion, if students follow those several ways perfectly, they will feel very confident and able to make a good composition.

The Effect of Lying

Uncomfortable feeling and stroke disease are the problems that are caused by lying continuously. For a start, lie is an action that tells false information to the others. Lying can make one feels uncomfortable since they afraid if people know if he/she has been lying. It can cause one always lie and never talk honestly. For example, when students show their parents a good mark but actually they are not, students will try to not tell the truth forever to avoid shyness. Besides affecting an uncomfortable feeling, lying also impact one’s healthy such as stroke, heart attack, and unstable blood pressure. For example, Lie Detector or Poly gram uses a blood pressure to check one who dishonest and in a long term it can lead one healthy to get either stroke or heart attack. Overall, considering all of those effects, everybody should not lie because it could give more problems than people ever imagine such as an uncomfortable feeling and stroke disease.

Making Ya Fried Noodle

Fried Noodle is a one of the instants food today because it is very simple and easy to make. First, to make a fried noodle you only need one package of instant fried noodle and vegetables such carrot and garlic. If you already prepare all of those ingredients, now start to heat the pan. After that, fill one glass of water into the pan to boil the noodle. Then, open the package of noodle, put it inside the pan, and wait until it is boiled. While you waiting it is boiled, now start to open the sauce, ketchup, also the oil that already prepared inside the noodle’s package. Pour all that ingredients into the plate and just keep it. The next step is, cut the carrot and the garlic into small pieces, and if you finish you may to pour it into the plate. Next, if you see the noodle is enough to be boiled, take it off, and filter the water around the noodle. Make sure there is no water left, before you put it into the plate for the last step. If you done all of the steps before, now you just need to do the final step, which is mixed it gently, and if it starts to smell good, means that it is ready to served. So, in summary with all of those ingredients and steps that you need to do, it can be considered that fried noodle is a instant food that very simple and easy to make.

Social media is one of the important communication media because it can help people to do their business and communication. First, why social media can help people in business is because some of social media’s application can spread or share the advertisement of the product completely since the seller can put the detail of the product in the caption column. The applications which provide the services are Instagram, Path, YouTube, Snapchat, even Facebook. In addition, besides help people to sell something, social media’s applications also very useful to help people in inform something easier and faster because some applications also capable to create a group that can make user easily inform everything in their own group, and greatly, in one group may consist more than 100 members, this services are served by Facebook, WhatsApp, BBM, and LINE. In conclusion, based on those social media’s applications, it is very sure to said that social media can help people to do their business and their communication in daily life.

The Reason of Her Cries

Problems, hormone, and old memories are the most influential factors that caused women to cry easily. For a start, almost all women are very sensitive toward their conditions around. Usually, they are easier to give up when the problems are coming in a long term. The long-term problems may affect a complicated stress, so women will cry and shed their tears later on. In addition, a long-term problem such as relationship problems can be a major reason of why they cry. For instance, when a woman debates with her couple, she will cry easily and cannot resist her broken feeling. Besides the relationship problems, hormone factors such menstruation can also make women feel sad faster since they feel uncomfortable with their body. For example, when they are menstruating, they will feel very uncomfortable and will assume everything difficult, so it can force them to cry. Not only they are caused by those two factors, there is one factor left that may also make women cry loudly which are their old memories. Women usually cannot forget every special memory and tend to reminisce. However, their old memory, such as a wonderful school friendship can lead them to cry. The example is when they see an old photo and suddenly remember everything occurred in the past, the tears will automatically drips so they are crying again and keep crying. In conclusion, what caused women cry are problems, hormone, and old memories. 

Negative Effect of Smartphone for Elementary Students

Bad studying focus, obesity, and negative attitudes are the most common problems that are caused by playing smartphone games for elementary students. To begin with, elementary students mostly cannot limit their mind and freed from the influence of a new thing around them like smartphone games. Indirectly, they will be addicted by the games and it will caused the decline of studying focus, even they do not want to go to school anymore. Not only causing the decline of studying focus, it may make them become a overweight student and attacked by obesity disease. It can occur since playing games is more interesting than another activity like going for sport. When students playing games and eating snacks continuously, fat will accumulate in their body, and if there are less of movements after, it will lead a severe obesity. Besides both of those impacts, the worst impact of playing smartphone games is students’ negative attitudes. The smartphone games nowadays usually consist of unworthy elements for elementary students’ age range, for instance ribaldry and violence. The elementary students will automatically imitate all of those unworthy elements because they do not know which one is good or not, and it will endanger their future behavior. Overall, the problems of playing smartphone games for elementary students could be avoided if students considered the disreputable effects of it, which are bad studying focus, obesity, and negative attitudes. 

The Goodness of Having "Best" Friend

Have a best friend is a common need in life because best friend can help us to find solution between hard options, telling secrets, and sharing something. First, some people when having a best friends could decide decision smoothly, because the person does not think lonely. Best friend will give the best solution ever and always give spirit when someone got troubles. In addition, having a best friend will help someone to keep their personal secret and can get considerations whether it needs to be kept or just publish it out (Lmaoo). For instance, some people that have secret about love will think that it is not good if the secret should be told directly, in another word it is confusing between say it or not. But with having a best friend, it will be easier because there will any consideration based on other opinions. The last reason of why having a best friends is a common need is because someone can sharing their situation, every bad news, every good news, even sharing some money, and it will makes people happier because they have a place to talk freely. In conclusion, having a best friend is a quite important because it can help someone to help decision making, telling secrets, and sharing anything occurs in life.

I Want A Lot of Friends, Not A Lot of Girlfriends!

A long debate between having a lot of friends or having a lot of girlfriends was becoming a hot topic to be argued. Some people believe that having a lot of friends would give more advantages than having a lot of girlfriends. In the other hand, one who believes contrast is getting stronger and stronger to their own principle. My Dawgs in Senior High School

My nickname is Joe. At 2013, I was accepted by the greatest dormitory senior high school ever in Bali. This senior high school has a policy to divide students into nine houses and gratefully I was joining The Hornbill house as the third generation with another 7 members. This house makes me realize if people can understand others even they do not one's siblings or relatives. At some crucial points, this house indirectly teaches me on how to be a better person by understanding each other, speaking gently, and introducing me what the teamwork form is.

To begin with, every house' members are coming from every regency in Bali, but in fact, most of them come from Buleleng Regency like me and my house. Only 2-4 students who are coming from other regencies such as Negara, Karangasem, Klungkung, Gianyar, and etc. I know my job that time was to understand and respect each personality, although it was a severe trouble for me. Some debates between members cannot be avoided. Cried, no talked, even yelled were normal memories that I will remember forever. But time by time, we can understand everything and start to live like a real FAM. I know and I feel exactly how wonderful it is.

Not only teach me on how to understand each other, this house also trains me to be a good speaker. Every Friday's night, there will always an evaluation meeting for sharing, suggesting, also motivating purposes. With no doubt, as a junior I use this schedule to hear what my senior said moreover, as a senior I use this chance to speak gently in front of my friends also my junior. I motivated myself that I should be able to influence everyone by only hearing my short speech. One year as a senior, I felt full enough and decided to talk without any notes again even only in a piece of paper. It was a self-proud to see that my speech was easily accepted by my junior also my friend and it was totally due to Hornbill house members who kindly listened my speaking while I was a newbie speaker.

Finally, the precious thing that I had been getting during my invention in Hornbill house' family is how to have undefeated teamwork's plans. Every six months, usually there will be a big competition between nine houses to celebrate school's birthday, independent day, and some religious ceremonies. The Hornbill house always conducts important meetings not only twice, but uncountable times to fix everything that needed. The preparations was serious and cannot be disturbed by anyone. Sometimes my senior blamed me if they see some mistakes. My sisters also cried if they made some mistake s even none of our senior blamed them. You can imagine how scared the situation that time. However, with those experiences I know that if people want to win a championship, they need to prepare everything as fix as they want to win it.

Overall, considering all of that life-knowledge I feel so lucky to be a part of Hornbill house's member since it taught me many things and realizes me that brothers can be one's sibling even with no blood-relation. I notice those things would be very useful for my future. I want to pronounce a huge Thank You for you due to wonderful memories and great experiences that you give to me. As a closing, I want to say goodbye and take care!
