Self Relfection

Since I was in Senior High School, I always got a bad mark in English writing test. I do not know why and I cannot find any solutions on that. Need to know, I really love English but just in some aspects, such as reading and speaking. I realize that I am much better in reading especially in speaking. But time by time, I start to know why I hate writing in English. The reason is I have no skill and less knowledge of tenses and grammars. And maybe that is why my senior high school teacher sometimes did not understand with what I was writing. But when I joined both of ENGL 0302 and ENGL 0309, my writing skill was dramatically improving. I feel that. I start to understand how to make a good sentence with a clear controlling idea and making a structure-able paragraph with some supporting sentences. But do not forget about tenses and grammar because I almost remember all of the tenses and some of basic grammar (mostly use in writing) since I joined this class. That improvement shows to me that this class really helps me to have better English writing skill. If I can back to the past with the knowledge that I have today, I will easily get the best mark in my class or the best mark among entire students in my Senior High School.

But that is not mean there is nothing that I should improve anymore. I still feel need to do more practices as much as I can especially in tenses usage. Sometime I feel confused in using certain tenses within a complex sentence. Even I know what the functions of each tenses are, does not mean that I am expert in using it. So I need more and more practice in writing a complex sentence and use various tenses on it. Another thing that I should improve is my skill of determining idea or choosing my topic of writing. Mostly when I face an ENGL test related with making a topic sentence, paragraph, thesis, and essay, I will waste more than 5 minutes to think about it. So what I do after the class maybe practice to choose a topic then make a good start on it less than 5 minutes. You know, make a good start is little bit hard for me since it has lots of requirements. “Start” in my perspective is making an introduction, because if my introduction is not relevant and hard to explain, my essay or paragraph will never finish. So I should choose a logic introduction, relevant with the topic, and easy to elaborate or explain afterward.

So that is all about my improvements after joined ENGL class and yeah, I still need more improvements in some aspect and should find the solutions outside the class time to make my writing English skill perfect. Thank you.
